Toddlers can be little life sucking vampires that no one warns you about before having kids. Sure you get the the occasional " they must be in the terrible two's" non sense but the reality is these little mischievous balls of bi polar can suck the life right out of you and your marriage if you are not careful.
The bottom line for us as men is to realize that we usually fight in a different manner than women. But our logical, competitive nature cannot dominate our relationship conflicts. We lose out in the end that way. Therefore, we have to make it our mission not to cower or repress our outrage, but to remain open, respectful, compassionate, and communicative.
We work so hard our whole life to help them and to make sure they don't go without but we are rushing through everything that actually means something. We don't even realize that we are that train speeding down the tracks not stopping and sharing those magic moments with our most important passengers. So let's get off in a few stops and go enjoy the scenery.
It's 4 a.m. and I'm watching the minutes tick by, just awaiting the arrival of 5 a.m. so I can tiptoe downstairs to see what Santa has left me under the Christmas tree. I thought that maybe if I got there at 4:59 a.m. I could catch him leaving and possibly get a glimpse of ol Saint Nick.
When I was a kid I remember seeing a sign in my house that said "Anyone can be a Father but it takes someone special to be a Dad". I must have passed that sign a 1000 times and read it over and over but never really understood what it meant. I thought it was some crazy framed picture that my mom picked up on sale from a store.
Boy was I wrong about that one, and I didn't realize I was wrong until I was in high school....
